Co-Curriculars

Saint Raphael offers a variety of Co-Curricular programs and clubs designed to supplement the standard curriculum. Certain clubs are seasonal and others are year-round. Participation in certain groups depends on grade level. Contact the chairperson of each club to get more detailed information. If you have interest in volunteering or managing a Co-Curricular, contact the school office.

  • Altar Servers

    Grade Levels:

    Location: Saint Raphael Church

    Cost: $0

    Saint Raphael students are trained as Altar Servers to assist during the liturgy

    Students will act as Altar Servers during all school masses, weekend masses, and daily mass in the morning


  • Art and Photography Club

    Grade Levels: Grade 2 to Grade 8

    Location: Saint Raphael School Art Room

    Cost: $0

    Art club meets every 3rd Monday of each month

    First meeting is 11/15/21

    Members of Art Club will work on art projects for school events and hallway displays

    Seasonal projects will be created to keep and/or share with the school community

    A great way for students to express their creativity in addition to their regular Art classes


  • Athletics

    All youth at Saint Raphael Parish are invited to join a variety of sports organized in cooperation with Diocese of Cleveland CYO

    Athletics at Saint Raphael are volunteer supported and rely on the contributions of volunteers to succeed

    Sports include: Basketball, Baseball, Tackle Football, Flag Football, Volleyball, Cross-Country, Track, and Cheerleading

  • Band

    Grade Levels: Grade 4 to Grade 8

    Location: Saint Raphael School

    Cost:

    Grade 4: Beginning Band, perform at the Spring Concert

    Beginning Band starts learning their instrument in the fall of Grade 4

    Grade 5: Cadet Band, perform at the Christmas Concert

    Grades 6-8: Concert Band, perform at the Christmas Concert

    Concert Band also performs in the community for Senior Citizens and special functions


  • Book Club

    Grade Levels: Grade 3 to Grade 5

    Location: Saint Raphael School Art Room

    Cost: For a fee, students receive a copy of the book

    Do you enjoy reading? Do you like to discover new books? Then come and join the Raider Readers Book Club! 

    There will be two Book Clubs

    3rd/4th Grade Book Club

    5th Grade Book Club

    Meetings will take place at school, during the students assigned lunch and recess times

    Students will read each book, complete activities, and have a book celebration lunch at the end


  • Brain Brawl / Classroom of Champions

    Grade Levels: Grade 7 and Grade 8

    Location:

    Cost: $0

    Brain Brawl is an academic challenge-style competition among local grade schools each year

    Saint Ignatius High School hosts the competition yearly

  • Builders Club

    Grade Levels: Grade 7 and Grade 8

    Location:

    Cost: $0

    Any and all students are encouraged to join Builders Club

    This club focuses on community and school service to others

    The club also helps plan and coordinate fundraisers and social events


  • Chess Club

    Grade Levels: Grade 1 to Grade 8

    Location: Saint Raphael School

    Cost: $99 to Progress with Chess

    Chess Club is made possible through a partnership between Saint Raphael Home and School and Progress With Chess,  a local nonprofit organization with chess programs in over 50 area schools and recreation centers

    Chess improves higher level thinking skills such as memory, concentration and pattern recognition, and provides many opportunities for positive social interaction.

  • Damascus Camp

    All Grade 6 students participate in the annual trip to Damascus Catholic Youth Summer Camp

    The trip is an overnight field trip that usually takes place in the Fall

    Students participate in a variety of activities, games, and spiritual exercises over the weekend


  • Donation, Meditation, and Movement Club

    Grade Levels: Grade 4 to Grade 7

    Location: Saint Raphael School (Community Rooms)

    Cost: $0

    Donation, Meditation, and Movement classes are 50 minute sessions of faith-based yoga practice

    Bringing movement, mindfulness, and community together

    No experience is necessary

    All donations are given to local Cleveland Charities


  • Drama Club

    Grade Levels: Grade 5 to Grade 8

    Location: Saint Raphael School

    Cost: $0

    Sponsored by Home and School Association

    Drama club allows students to showcase their theatrical talents

    No prior theater experience is necessary

    Students can perform on stage, or be a member of the stage crew

    Drama club meets Sunday evenings from 6-8pm

    Drama club teaches the tools to put on a successful show twice a year

    Rehearsals begin in September and happen until March or April

    Two full-scale drama productions/performances per year


  • Eager Engineers

    Grade Levels: Grade K to Grade 4

    Location: Saint Raphael Innovation Center

    Cost: $0

    Eager Engineers is a fun after school STREAM program taught by the visiting teachers from Creative Classes

  • Garden Club

    Grade Levels: All grades K-8 welcome

    Location: Saint Raphael School Art Room

    Cost: $0

    • Garden club meets every 3rd Friday of each month
    • First meeting is 11/19/21
    • Members of Garden Club will complete Garden and Plant based projects in the various beds and gardens around Saint Raphael School
    • No experience in Gardening is necessary

  • Geography Bee

    Grade Levels: Grade 4 to Grade 8

    Location:

    Cost: $0

    Students participate in the Geography Bee during Social Studies class

    A general test determines what students continue on to local, state, and national Geography competitions


  • Girls on the Run

    Grade Levels: Girls Grade 3 to Grade 5

    Location: Saint Raphael School

    Cost:

    Helps students discover the benefits of consistent physical exercise and good nutrition

    Focus on positive peer to peer support

    Goals of helping students improve their body image, strengthen their sense of identity, and learn to stand up for themselves in a healthy manner

    Meetings after school to have practice runs and group sessions

    Group members participate in 5K run/walk event towards the end


  • Homework Club

    Grade Levels: Grade 5 to Grade 8

    Locations: Saint Raphael

    Cost: $0

    Homework Club is available per teacher recommendation

    Tuesdays: Homework club meets in the Zwilling Room

    Thursdays: Homework club meets in the School Library

    Homework club helps students catch up on missing work, projects and assignments


  • Lego Club

    Grade Levels: Grade 1 to Grade 5

    Location: Saint Raphael School

    Cost: $65

    Lego Club meets on Tuesdays from 3:30 to 4:30

    Legos are provided, bring your creativity and imagination

    Weekly themes and challenges

    Healthy snack provided during club


  • News Team

    Grade Levels: Grades 7 and 8

    Location: Saint Raphael Innovation Center

    Cost: $0

    The Saint Raphael News Team is a group of 7th and 8th grade students who work together to write, read, organize and livestream the morning announcements in the school each morning

    The announcements are only broadcast internally throughout the school

  • Personal Finance

    Grade Level: Grade 6

    Location: Saint Raphael

    Cost: $0

    Personal Finance is a before school program that is a year long simulation where students, working in small groups, take their identity from age 18 through 65.

    Along the way, they get jobs, pay bills, maintain bank accounts, buy a car and a house, contribute to charities, and save for retirement.

    They will also be faced with unforeseen circumstances which will affect their decisions

    In the end, the team with the highest net worth wins providing a fun, interactive approach to personal finance


  • Power of the Pen

    Grade Levels: Grade 7 and Grade 8

    Location: Saint Raphael and local parishes

    Cost: $0

    12 total students are chosen for the writing team

    6 students from Grade 7

    6 students from Grade 8

    Students compete in 3 rounds of writing (40 minute sessions) against other local schools in the area

    Power of the Pen is great for students who love being able to express themselves creatively through their writing, sharing stories with others, and improving their writing skills


  • Safety Patrol

    Grade Levels: Grade 5 to Grade 8

    Locations: Saint Raphael

    Cost: $0

    Saint Raphael newspaper allows students in Grades 5-8 to write articles on a variety of topics, activities, and events happening at the school

    The School Newspaper also publishes a monthly Magazine

  • Science Fair

    Grade Levels: Grade 6 to Grade 8

    Location: Saint Raphael School

    Cost: $0

    All students in Grades 6, 7 and 8 participate in the annual Science Fair 

    Students must produce a science project following detailed guidelines and criteria, and must present their findings to judges who help determine the top projects

    Adults who work in a variety of scientific fields volunteer as judges for student projects

    Grade Levels: Grade 7 and Grade 8 

    Location: Saint Raphael

    Elections for homeroom representatives in September/October

    Students elect all officers and representatives

    Students serve one year terms

    The council develops a goal or project to work toward for the year

    Student Council plans events, raises money for scholarships, and advocates for student led-change

  • Student Liturgy

    Grade Levels: Grade 7 and Grade 8

    Location: Saint Raphael

    Cost: $0

    Student Liturgy meets 1-2 times per month to help prepare the Church for all school Masses

    Students write reflections and petitions for the Mass and are given an opportunity to participate in the Liturgy


  • Study Skills

    Grades 4 to 8

    12 sessions total

    Program designed to develop the skills necessary to be effective and efficient students in today's demanding academic environment

    Topics range from organization and time management to test taking skills and test preparation

    Sessions are offered at various times throughout the school year
